"Westlin" is an adjective used by Robert Burns to describe people and places of the West, such as those in his beloved Ayrshire. As musicians who live and perform in another Western region -- California -- we've borrowed this name from the great bard of Scotland. Tune weaving is our trade, and if the analogy brings to mind earlier folkies, well, we're glad to be in such rarified company! We owe them a great debt, and much gratitude.
The band features a rolling line-up of veteran San Diego Scottish contemporary musicians and exciting up-and-coming musicians, and we often perform with a wide range of guest Celtic musicians and dancers drawn from across Southern California. We play traditional and contemporary Scottish/Irish favorites and sea shanteys and sea songs, as well as a variety of contemporary acoustic selections. The repertoire is Celtic, but the flavor is definitely American, and if you hear a touch of bluegrass in our sound, well, we come by it honestly.
